Making Money Through The Internet… A Twist…

Starting with nothing, doing what you love and making money?  What a concept right?  It is amazing what can happen if you want to take your blogging, websites, twitter, and any other social media network to the next level.  Sure, millions of articles and blogs have been written about how to make money on the net.  I am one of those millions.  Let the truth syrum out though… You cannot JUST make money blogging.  It takes so much!  First off, every site has a different opinions on how to do this.  Suppose I posted something in regards to Affiliate Marketing on Twitter.  The first thing to hit my account would be numerous spam messages regarding different affiliate marketing platforms.  Which is the best?  Who does it better?  Where will you make more money than any other.  Here is the truth… besides having a wealth of services to sell, being an affiliate only makes you money if you put time and effort into it.  You cannot just jump in and make a fortune like the sites advertise.  You need to gain a following, spit out those advertisements, hope to goodness somebody has an interest, and most of all, hope they want to spend the money…

Problem… with the exception of reputable sites like Amazon, posting an affiliate marketing banner or link can look quite cheesy.  Kind of like a scam.  The content offered from most sites just doesn’t cut it.  Honestly, how many times have you received an ad with a link to get a “FREE iPad”???  Does it really work?  Not that I know of… But… if someone out there REALLY did receive a free iPad, please tell me how and I promise to sign up.

Next Topic… Setting up a website… Every get rich online ad tells you to set up your own website!  Some even include this set up with your “online, pay now or you won’t get this deal again” slogan!

So many domains, so many choices… And look, they all do something more for you that the others don’t for a great price.  If you do not know how to build your own website, myself included, then you can opt for something like BrainHost to help you.  There are many more out there… GoDaddy for example, is a reputable site.  Unfortunately, Brainhost and similar sites make you “think” it is going to be much easier to do it through them with their walk through process and free website start up help.  Never mind the fact that as you are setting up your website, you keep bumping into these little pop ups asking you to connect to some other option that will help you considerably!  These options supposedly help you gain more traffic, facilitate the way your site works and the like.  Well, if you really take a moment to refresh your memory when you first purchased your domain, you actually paid for most of these enhancements initially.  Problem is, the advertisements genuinely make you “think” you are getting more out of them!  Fools we are!  End result, you pay $2.00 here, $3.50 there, another $10.00 and so on… All of a sudden, you have the opportunity to utilize 25 or maybe even 100 additional emails you can associate with your site and a bunch of letterhead to choose from in order to send a thank you or an immediate reply to people who visit your site… Problem is, your website still is not built and you have ZERO traffic.

As much as I want to continue ranting, it is now time for me to continue reading my book “WordPress For Dummies”… Hoping this will give me the real skinny, not make me rich, but help me enjoy what I am doing now   Next on the list is how to build your own website.  Yes, I do have a domain… No, I did not choose the right platform for my domain… Why?  Simply put, I believed a super cheesey website article and clicked on the affiliate banner…
