Vision

“Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.”
-Jonathan Swift

If looking for a way to create or manifest success, you need vision.  True visionaries are able to move forward by having their own vision; one that is different from the others.  I recently read an article in Success Magazine about Nadia Shouraboura’s latest venture, Hointer.  Nadia, the former Vice President for Amazon, is recreating the consumer shopping experience with her new virtual/non-virtual store, Hointer.

So, what is so great about Hointer?

It’s a store with a computer brain.
It’s a store with no checkout lines.
High end jeans for men hang on clothes lines so you can look at them.
Interested in trying on a pair? Use your smartphone and the jeans will be ready in an assigned fitting room for you.
You can even borrow a pair from the store.
You purchase the jeans from your smartphone, and can have them altered (for FREE) overnight.

Now that is true vision.

The Best Last Minute Gift

Why you should get a Kindle … besides the fact that prices start at only $69.00

  1. It’s your personal portable library and helps you travel light (weighs less than a paperback)
  2. Books are cheaper than buying from a book store.
  3. Before you buy a book, you can test out a free sample of it.
  4. Millions of titles, like tons of classics are FREE!  Yes, I said FREE!
  5. You can borrow a Kindle book from your public library… Did I mention NO DUE DATE!
  6. Font Choices and Text Sizes can be changed/adjusted to your liking!  Even when your eyes are tired, you can read… OR, listen to your book through it’s speakers (some kindles do not have the audio function).
  7. You can search the web.
  8. It has a built-In Dictionary.
  9. The Kindle personally recommends books for you (so sweet).
  10. Subscribing to your favorite magazine or newspaper is easy!  If you don’t want to get a newspaper every day, you can still purchase it by edition.

Aside from the reasons mentioned above, the Kindle lets you bookmark pages, has real page numbers, allows your books to be read through ALL of your Kindle apps, and devices, and even has WHISPERSYNC which means that you can read any book, on any device, and pick up where you left off… No more losing a bookmark and not remembering the last page you read.  Need I say more?

Thinking Fast And Slow

What is really going on in your head… Thinking Fast and Slow is a concept I never really thought of trying…

It’s quite a challenge…  Thinking, Fast and Slow may be worse than trying to multitask.  Decisions need to be made, sometimes quickly.  The decision maker needs to work fast and make a determination.  Without much time, the decision maker’s mind needs to process a few things… First, whether they should trust their intuition or not.  Second, whether they should take a step back, allow for some rational thinking to make the final determination which could in fact result in not making a decision fast enough.

Imagine having the ability to think fast, using intuition and emotion, and still incorporate a slower, more logical and deliberate manner of thinking to come to a decision. Our lives are filled with making various decisions daily.  Whether these decisions relate to work, home, or even day-to-day activities or relationships, making the right one is ideal. Kahneman’s book, Thinking, Fast and Slow is a phenomenal explanation of the different ways we think and make important decisions.  His years of research are clear throughout the book, showing how both systems, Thinking Fast And Slow, complement one another and how each shape the choices we make in life and different aspects of decision-making.  This book will give the reader new and great insight on how our brains work.  It will change the way you think about thinking.

Fifty Shades Of Grey… Trending Book Or Mommy P*#n?

Somehow, I missed this one!  Although I have never implied that I am all about the “latest trends” regardless of the name of my website.  Trending Mom is not about following or knowing all current trends.  It is about following what is trending in your world rather than the world around you.  My goal is to empower more people to start doing what they love and following their own passion rather than what their friends “think” they should do or what is socially accepted… I know… blah blah blah… So, back to my “Twin Peaks Moment.”  Fifty Shades Of Grey, according to an amazing group of ladies I know, is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ!

Ok, so this “MUST READ” just happened to be mentioned last evening.  A group of friends and I were chatting away, drinking a bit of wine and discussing life.  As always, the room was filled with laughter.  Midway through the evening, it happened.  The book Fifty Shades Of Grey was mentioned and within seconds, everyone in the room started talking about it.  Everyone except me!  Rarely do I miss any news regarding a good book!  Well, since I had never heard about this book, I thought they must have started some secret book club without me.  Off course, I could not help myself, so I asked loudly… “did you all start some sort of book club without me?”  They looked at me with those winkey eyes people get when they are confused… Ok, so I felt a little odd at that very moment.  Before I could speak again, all of the women seemed dumbfounded that I had no idea about the book.  Quite honestly, so did I.  Off course, comment number one came… “Trending Mom???  You don’t know about Fifty Shades Of Grey???”

Ok, so first I showed a bit of insecurity, then got a little defensive, and just after that, could not help but listen to each of them talk about the book.  Between a love story, a “dom,” and a “sub,” not to mention being labeled as “Mommy Porn,” my head was spinning!  At first, I thought that I was going crazy!  Were they really reading this book???  Then, I realized what was going on… I was not listening to them talk about the book because my mind kept repeating two words… ”Mommy Porn.”  At that very moment, I decided to stop listening to my itty bitty brain, and start listening to the women around me.  Once I did that, I immediately decided that I had to have the book.  It sounded too good to be true!  The conversation lasted quite a while!  Things I never expected to hear were being said.  Off course, all in good fun but, every bit of it made me want the book more!  Although I have not purchased it yet, clearly, I cannot get it out of my head!  My plan is to download it on my iPad this evening and start reading.  From the sounds of it, I may have to take a few days off from writing so I can concentrate on the book.  Just one more note… Since I am “Trending Mom,” and I am “Supposed To” kind of know about current trends… I did find a little something for men with significant others who are reading this book:  My fine for the menA Guy’s Secret Guide to Fifty Shades of Grey!  Ha!  Bet all my girlfriends didn’t know about that one!

Don’t Forget To Get Your Copy Of Book One Or The Trilogy!

Summer Reading For Children

Sifting through my planner, I realized that most of the entries pertaining to my daughter’s schools had a common theme… events leading to the end of the school year.  With summer vacation just around the corner, it was a little disturbing to see that the next few months in my calendar were blank with the exception of one little sticky note which read…  SUMMER CAMP!  Well now, who in their right mind adds a note to enroll their kids in summer camp just moments before school is out?  Oh yeah… me.

Never mind enrolling them in a camp, I hadn’t even researched camps in the area.  Not knowing where to start, my mind was made up.  Apart from the kickstart programs I had enrolled the girls in through their school, I began searching for ways to create an entertaining summer for my little ones packed with oodles of fun, and off course, exciting ways to ensure they do not forget what they had learned in school throughout the year.  Finally, I settled on enrolling them in various activities which would keep them occupied through the summer.

My next focus was on the education aspect.  Although the girls are young and I do not want to stress them out with a summer curriculum, I do know that they are both desperate to learn how to read.  As an avid reader myself, I could not be happier that my girls have a shared interest.  The only drawback…  teaching them, and finding the right books to do so.  My girls are opinionated and have very specific interests.  Although there are some fantastic books and other resources geared towards helping children learn to read, the ones we tried failed at holding their interest.  Rather than buy more books my children don’t like, and waste money, I chose a different approach.  Sitting in front of my computer with two peanuts on my lap, my girls and I started browsing through websites, in search of exciting summer reading books!  Between my two little ones, our shopping cart had a total of 32 books they were interested in.  Although I have no intention of purchasing 32 books immediately, I am confident that I have enough books to choose from, that my selective little beings will enjoy!

Blink…

My book club disbanded a year ago. Although saddened by this, it was expected. Oddly enough, within the first few moments of our first book club meeting, I knew it would not last. For the past year, I, unfortunately, have not read many books simply for pleasure. After speaking with a few of my former book club members yesterday, I decided to make a conscious effort to begin reading for fun again. The first book I chose, “Blink”…
Why did I choose blink? Well, quite frankly, I do not know. What I do know, is that I saw the book on a shelf at Barnes and Noble, and instantly, I knew I wanted to read it. I downloaded the book on my iPad and started to read. Rarely would I write about a book that I have not finished but, in this case, I cannot help myself.
You see, the author has basically altered my thinking already which I am not sure I am comfortable with. Being a big believer in “women’s intuition”, and simply intuition, Malcom Gladwell, the author, has, without refuting intuition, thrown my beliefs out the window. Our adaptive unconscious is all of a sudden taking the place of intuition thus making intuition, something measurable, and no longer a level of higher consciousness… As you can see, this book is giving my mind a run for its money while telling me to stop thinking big, break it down into thin slices, and think simply, thus rending big results. Oddly enough, this method, makes sense.

“B Is For Bump” Apps For Free From A To Z

April 2nd, 2012

“B Is For Bump”

First Came Bump And Now Bump Pay

One of the first apps I downloaded on my iPhone was Bump.  I was overjoyed to find that instead of having to re-enter contact information for my friends, if they had an iPhone, we could simply Bump, and voila, information exchange at it’s finest!

Bump developers have gone one step further.  Making things easier for buyers and sellers in today’s market, they released Bump Pay!  Bump pay allows for PayPal transactions strictly through bumping devices together!  Using your existing PayPal account, all you need is your PayPal password in order to send a payment.  Even better, it is free!  Another innovative idea from App developers!

Instant Film Cameras – Polaroid – A Past Trend Or Not?

INTRODUCING THE Polaroid 300 Instant Camera – Black
Remember the days when the Polaroid Instant Cameras were the best thing since sliced bread!  I do!  Just when you thought those were completely overshadowed by todays digital trends, Polaroid has brought an old trend to the forefront again.

Recently, my daughters and I were lunching at my girlfriends house.  While there, I noticed a bunch of mini pictures on a wall.  They were so cute that I had to look closer.  As I approached them, I saw family members, friends and many pictures of my girlfriend’s two boys.  I asked her where she had them printed.  She told me it was from her new camera and then, she pulled it out of a draw…  It was adorable!  A new toy for this Mom I thought!  Although I love my camera, this little mini made me extend my arms and wiggle my fingers like a little kid in a candy store that just couldn’t wait!  I had to have it!  She handed it to me and I started snapping!  With each snap, a picture popped out of the camera.  Even better, I got to shake it… “shake shake shake, shake it like a Polaroid picture” (I had to write that… lyrical credits to Outkast)… So much fun!  I cannot wait to get my own!

Please don’t forget to vote for Trending Mom! I would love your help!
