THE BEST PARENTING BOOK EVER

LET’S PANIC ABOUT BABIES…

The Cover Says It All… “How to endure and possibly triumph over the adorable tyrant who will ruin your body, destroy your life, liquefy your brain, and finally turn you into a worthwhile human being.”  Whether you are pregnant or not, this book should be on everyone’s coffee table!

Trust me, that is just the beginning!  Rarely would I read a new parenting book at this stage in my life. Fortunately, this book just “happened” to fall in my lap, forcing me to read the pages, which then caused extreme stomach pains from laughing, and wishing I had done more kegel exercises during my pregnancy… I think I have said enough now.

Let’s Panic About Babies!: How to Endure and Possibly Triumph Over the Adorable Tyrant Who Will Ruin Your Body, Destroy Your Life, Liquefy Your Brain, … Turn You into a Worthwhile Human Being… OFFICIALLY THE BEST PARENTING BOOK EVER!

Best Diet Books 2012

I do not believe in diets – I want to believe in being able to manifest things like staying thin after eating a whole pizza every night for a month straight – I do believe in healthy eating and portion control.  As I stated, I do not believe in diets, but… there is something to be said about books related to dieting and different methods.  Never having been one to follow any one diet fully, I have adopted bits and pieces from great authors that have a wealth of knowledge that I would like to share with you!

Here Is The List Of Best Diet Books 2012!

Practical Paleo: A Customized Approach to Health and a Whole-Foods Lifestyle
Have you heard of the Paleo Principle? If not, you may want to delve into this book. With a simple and easy to understand approach to whole foods along with over 100 recipes, this is an important book for anyone’s bookshelf.

Skinny Bitch
Ok, so maybe becoming vegan is not your cup of tea. Regardless, this book will scare you straight about the reality of how our food is made and what you are truly consuming. It was an eye opener for me, yet maintained the type of sarcasm in each paragraph that had me laughing out loud. I actually read this one twice.

Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health
I am not really sure I need to say more than what the title of this book already says… Personally, my feelings get a little hurt when I read this. I have always tried to blame my belly fat on having children… not the mounds of carbs I like to inhale…

Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss, Revised Edition
Imagine this concept… Eat To Live… Not sure what is so hard about that but, somehow, I eat to live… and live some more…

Super Immunity: The Essential Nutrition Guide for Boosting Your Body’s Defenses to Live Longer, Stronger, and Disease Free
The last book on my list… Imagine if you ate the right foods to build your immune system and potentially avoid the common flu and more all winter long… Ok, so maybe you would not have a valid reason for calling in sick but at least you wouldn’t feel icky.

Whether you have children or not, once you hit your 30′s, everything seems to change. I remember a few things before my 30 somethings… I could stay up after 2am and still get up at 7am feeling (kind of) ok. I also remember eating, and eating, and eating, and not gaining any weight… Oh yeah, I also remember thinking things would never change. Well, growing up has proved me wrong. Instead of worrying about each pound, I choose to follow a “few simple rules,” many of which I learned from the books above. The “few simple rules” I try to follow keep me feeling good, staying healthy and maintaining my body weight.

WriteRoom App

 WriteRoom App

Not Just For Professional Writers

Interested in what all the hype around the app WriteRoom was, I decided to download it. Once opened, I started this post… only this time, I began my post in WriteRoom and not my website.

So, the question is, what is so fantastic about this app? My response… the answer is black and white… nothing and everything. Oddly enough, WriteRoom is one of the most basic apps I have ever used, yet genius. The name of the app says it all. Open the app and start writing.

The app has been set up so that you have NO distractions while you write. Whether the spelling is incorrect, or you haven’t decided on a font yet, it just doesn’t matter. All of that can be dealt with at a later time within the app itself.  The idea is to write. That is it! Just write!

With the amount of distractions people encounter daily, WriteRoom is the perfect addition for any and every type of writer. Whether college student, business person, reporter or blogger, WriteRoom is a great fit. WriteRoom is one of the few apps to date that may never need an update!

Answers to a few questions you may have about WriteRoom…
Q: Does it offer a spell check or grammar check?
A: Yes
Q: Can the spell check or grammar check show while you are writing?
A: Yes, but that defeats the purpose of really just writing and letting it flow, doesn’t it?
Q: Can you export to PDF directly from WriteRoom?
A: Yes
Q: Can you actually format in the app itself?
A: Yes, they offer a format section where more than just fonts can be changed.
Q: Are their different view options?
A: Yes, you can view with different scrolling capabilities, there is even a way to have each line you are writing on be highlighted.
Q: …
A: No more questions and answers please… Just get WriteRoom and start writing. It’s that simple!

Top 5 Audiobooks

Audiobooks happen to be my latest vice.  I suppose that isn’t the worst vice to have for most. Unfortunately, I am not like most people.  When I allow a vice into my world, I let it consume me.  Since finding my new passion/vice, the wonderful world of Audiobooks, my bedtime ritual has changed, my eyes are tired every morning, I hit my snooze button more often and my daily functioning is sub par.  Needless to say, in order for anyone to appreciate this, they too need to understand the beauty of my latest obsession/vice.  That is why I decided to include the top 5 audiobooks here for you to download, enjoy and become overly obsessed with!

4 out of the 5 Audiobooks below are a part of my current library.  Gone Girl is the only one I have not read/listened to yet. Gone Girl is also the one I have heard the most positive feedback on.  Currently, I have had a late night relationship with the same audiobook for a week.  Each night, I wake to my headphones on, hot ears and no recollection of what I just listened to.  Yes, that is because I keep falling asleep. Rather than move on to the next book, I start from the beginning once again each night. Tonight will be the 8th night I’m once again starting from the beginning.  My goal, to finish the audiobook I am trying my hardest to stay awake through!  I would like to finish it by this weekend. Gone Girl is the next one on my radar, and I am determined to soak up every word spoken as soon as possible!

No Longer Missing The Days When Mom Would Read To Me… All It Took Was A Free Audiobook…

As much as I love to sit down to a good book, I still miss being young, snuggled up in bed and listening to my mother read me a magical story.  I may not be able to get my youth back but I can surely let someone else do the work for my tired eyes once in a while.  I used to stick my nose up at people that purchased audiobooks.  As if there is a difference between reading yourself and listening… clearly, I was a book snob (or should I say idiot).

For years, I took pride in the fact that I would read 1 to 2 books a week.  Now, I take pride that I am absorbing 1 to 2 books per week.  Some which I read with my very own eyes, and some which I let someone else get parched while recording multiple pages filled with words for me.  The benefits of listening to audiobooks are fantastic!

  1. I can listen to a book late into the evening without getting tired eyes.
  2. I can listen to an audiobook and still spend time around my family while they watch tv shows I have ZERO interest in.
  3. I can listen to an uplifting audiobook while driving to work every morning and night.
  4. I can listen to an audiobook while doing my groceries.
  5. I can listen to an audiobook while cleaning my house.
  6. I can listen to an audiobook while lounging by a pool… The list just goes on…
Besides finding a cure for a deadly disease, or in my case, cooking, there aren’t many things that I would not do while listening to an audiobook.  I only mention cooking because I may be one of the few people in the world that is able to burn broccoli in a microwave…

How To – Mobile Photography

Yes folks, as much as I cannot stand admitting this, but… Photography has gone mobile and that is not going to change!

Mobile photography goes against everything I have preached… I love my Canon Rebel!  My pictures have never looked so wonderful.  Unfortunately, I cannot carry my Canon with me all the time.  On most occasions, my iPhone is my primary go to for capturing memorable moments.

This evening, I hit the JACKPOT!  I found my next purchase!  SnApp Shots, the book, written by Adam Bronkhorst. SnApp Shots is the ultimate guide for creating great photos using your mobile device.  Although the emphasis of the book is on how to take great photographs with a mobile phone, it also covers the wonderful world of photography apps, accessories and more. Fortunately, SnApp Shots is such a good-looking book, that once you have mastered the mobile photography world, it can be showcased as the “perfect coffee table book” for your living room!  :)

Blink…

My book club disbanded a year ago. Although saddened by this, it was expected. Oddly enough, within the first few moments of our first book club meeting, I knew it would not last. For the past year, I, unfortunately, have not read many books simply for pleasure. After speaking with a few of my former book club members yesterday, I decided to make a conscious effort to begin reading for fun again. The first book I chose, “Blink”…
Why did I choose blink? Well, quite frankly, I do not know. What I do know, is that I saw the book on a shelf at Barnes and Noble, and instantly, I knew I wanted to read it. I downloaded the book on my iPad and started to read. Rarely would I write about a book that I have not finished but, in this case, I cannot help myself.
You see, the author has basically altered my thinking already which I am not sure I am comfortable with. Being a big believer in “women’s intuition”, and simply intuition, Malcom Gladwell, the author, has, without refuting intuition, thrown my beliefs out the window. Our adaptive unconscious is all of a sudden taking the place of intuition thus making intuition, something measurable, and no longer a level of higher consciousness… As you can see, this book is giving my mind a run for its money while telling me to stop thinking big, break it down into thin slices, and think simply, thus rending big results. Oddly enough, this method, makes sense.
