Celebrate World Water Day – March 22, 2013

CELEBRATE WORLD WATER DAY WITH ME, AND HELP SAVE UP TO 2,000 CHILDREN EACH DAY FROM DYING!  MAKE YOUR MARK!

Did you know that almost 2,000 children are dying every day because of unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation?  In fact, 11% of our world’s population do not have safe drinking water.  That equates to about 783 Million people!

Imagine you, carrying a parasitic worm in your body.  Now, imagine carrying 1,000 parasitic worms!  Unfortunately, that is not atypical for children in environments without safe drinking water.  There are so many reasons to join WaterAid America with their quest to solve the world’s water problems.  WaterAid America uses a practical approach.  Their solutions to give safe drinking water and better sanitation to the world’s developing countries make sense, and are sustainable.  Their solutions are also community specific.

Intestinal worms, diarrhea, disease, problems for the elderly and disabled are just a few of the negative effects unsafe water conditions have in developing countries.  Remember, 2,000 children each day are dying because of the lack of safe water and sanitation.  That’s almost 700,000 children each year dying.  Those numbers alone should be enough to realize we all need to work together and help WaterAid with their mission.

If those numbers resonate with you, then celebrate with me in a Google+ hangout, and MAKE YOUR MARK for World Water Day 2013:

Learn more about the mission by joining WaterAid America and leading experts in the fight against water poverty for a Google+ hangout marking World Water Day 2013 on Friday, March 22 at 1:30pm EST / 5:30pm GMT at http://ow.ly/iZCdj

World Water Day Is About Joining Together As A Global Community To Eradicate The Devastating Effects Of Unsafe Drinking Water And Poor Sanitation.

SEO And Internet Marketing Strategies – Part 1

468x60b

SEO, also known as Search Engine Optimization, is yet, another tool used as an Internet Marketing Strategy.  Search engine optimization should be incorporated and utilized by web designers to make websites and their designs search friendly.  The goal is to optimize the websites exposure on the Internet.

So, how do you optimize your website and make it Internet search friendly… Well, there are a number of ways. When determining which tools would benefit your website the most, think of the difference between search engines and how they work.  Essentially, search engines have different target audiences.  Through this, you can utilize specific keywords in your posts and through formatting titles, increasing back links, specific menu options, shopping carts and more to increase exposure to various search engines, thus a higher likelihood of getting noticed by the target audience of your choice.

Overall, the success of your website depends on a few things.  First and foremost, content.  Regardless of how great your site looks, without good content, rarely will the website survive.  There are plenty of great looking websites with nothing to offer their readers.  Some popular websites are simply black and white with no frills.   Second to content, gaining readership.  If you do not use SEO tools or enhance your website for proper SEO, you will not have an easy time gaining readership.  Highly ranked sites are generally optimized for search engines.

3 tips to help you with Search Engine Optimization…

  1. Write for your readers, not just for SEO.  Cloaking, or deception (as I like to call it), is not highly looked upon. Cloaking will not get you recurring traffic.
  2. Keywords – Make sure you have rich keywords in place.  The keywords should be in your title as well as content.  Your title should clearly define what the content is about.  The content should be readable as well as include keywords.  A mistake some make is overdoing it with content rich keywords.  You do not have to go overboard.  A well formatted article goes  a lot further than adding the same keyword in every sentence.  The URL should also contain the proper terms/keywords.
  3. Finding your readers… If you really want to utilize the best search engine terms for your website, get back to basics.  Think of yourself as an Internet surfer.  Now, consider the article you are writing.  If you were surfing the Internet, and looking for information related to your article, what terms would you enter in the search field of your browser???  Just like that… you now know what your readers might enter, therefore giving you a better idea of which key words would best be suited for your post.

Stay tuned for part two of SEO And Internet Marketing Strategies… until then, happy optimizing!

Terms For Above Post Broken Down… The Laymans (Trending Mom) Way…

  • Laymans Terms – Technical terms broken down in an easy to understand manner.
  • Keywords In URL - Meaning that the website address for a specific post contains the keyword associated with the post.  For example, if you choose to make the title of your post SEO And Internet Marketing Strategies… the URL/Permalink generated by my theme for that specific post is http://www.trendingmom.com/seo-and-intern… You get the gist.
  • Back Links – This is a link that points to another website from your website or vice versa, from your website to another.  Back links are important for Search Engine Optimization because the number of back links you have, and the quality of the back links (meaning that they point to or from a highly ranked website), may increase your website rankings as well.
  • Cloaking - Utilizing specific keywords in the title (and/or body) of your post), in order to appeal to search engines.  With cloaking, the title (or keywords in the post), are generally not related.  Again… deception… Basically, it is formatting a title like mine, SEO and Internet Marketing Strategies – Part 1, but writing about something completely different while incorporating the words SEO, Internet, Marketing, etc…

Make Money Blogging – A Twist On The Skinny…

LinkShare_468x60v2

Make Money Blogging – Three Not So Simple Words!  Blogging for money seems to be the new trend.  Although blogging can be very lucrative, it also has a dark side… It’s called reality.  Unless you have the ability to somehow engage thousands of readers and make your website one of the top sites on various website ranking engines in days, you will not get rich quick.  Again though, blogging can be very rewarding… you just have to be ready for the reality.

First, you need to love to write.  If you don’t like to write, you are in the wrong business.  Second, if you do not have a plan or idea about your target market or what you want to write about, forget about the money… take a minute and put together your plan.  Third, write, write, write… If you want to utilize affiliates and sell services, make sure that your target market is interested in what you showcase.  Although I could go on forever with tips, and more, I am not going to.  Instead, I would like to keep this short and leave you with this:

  1. Making money from blogging is a possibility.
  2. Don’t expect advertisers to pay you thousands of dollars if you do not have thousands and thousands of readers.
  3. Affiliate sales will make you money but… not a ton unless… you have readers, and, you are smart about how you market and who you are marketing to.  Remember, if you are trying to sell children’s clothes, but your website is about pets, you are most likely not going to have a ton of children’s clothing sales on your site.
  4. Content… make sure what you write is not only readable, but appeals to your readers.
  5. Content… make sure you write more than just one article a week.  Give your readers a reason to come back.
  6. Font… I have to throw this in b/c I made this mistake… I was working on my Mac and added a Google font which looked amazing on my Mac.  Later, I went to show a friend of mine my website on her PC and noticed that the font not only looked like absolute crap, but, even wearing my glasses could not fix the fact that I could barely read it!
  7. Another mistake I made as a beginner blogger… comments… I was so excited to start receiving comments on my blog that I began responding to all of them!  I also allowed all of them as posts regardless of the fact that some sounded odd and didn’t quite relate to what I had written.  Still though, I thought that I should respond and post these.  That was, until I received a comment from a real person stating… “Do you realize that most of the comments you are replying to are spam?”  Did I feel like an idiot?  Yes.  This only confirmed to the rest of the world that I was a novice blogger!
  8. Yet another mistake I made… not engaging with other bloggers.  If you think you are better than the rest, think again.  As a new blogger, you don’t have readers.  Other bloggers do.  There are many reasons for that.  Overall, the blogosphere is not a competition like real life can be.  This is a different world where a lot of bloggers work with one another and promote each other.  Get your nose out of the air and realize that blogging and being a snob do not mix well.  In fact, the last thing you want is to be snubbed by a well-known blogger… although, they probably would never do that. It is one of the reasons they are successful.  Take for example, some of the best blogs out there.  Well, one of the first things you will notice is that a lot of what they write about is to help others.  Another note, many of those websites have content specifically promoting other blogs.  This is a different world.  Get used to it and know that you are not above other bloggers.
  9. Similar to trying to snag your best friend’s boyfriend or husband, DON’T steal content from another blogger.  There is enough content out there, just like there are enough fish in the sea… you get it right?  Surprisingly, this not only happens often, but everyone gets caught at some point.  It is disrespectful and honestly, makes you look like a fool.
  10. Overall, be creative, have fun and write what you love and know.  Understand that it may take time to rake in the dough, but have fun while you are getting there.

There is so much information that I could cover, but as I stated at the beginning of this post, I am keeping this one short.  The best advice I can give any blogger new to the blogosphere is this… Enjoy your new venture, savor the contacts you make, be creative, don’t let one or two negative comments get to you, allow for multiple streams of income in case one goes south, and don’t expect everything to happen immediately.  It may take months… it may take years.

A Blog Button Generator… What’s a blog button?

Not to long ago, I made cyber friends with a few bloggy moms.  We shared similar interests and decided to collaborate and promote a cause or two.  Before posting anything on our blogs, my bloggy mom friends thought it would be a good idea to grab one another’s buttons and post them on our blog pages.  Huh?  Grab a button and add it to my website?  Little did I know, but that was the “thing” to do as a blogger.

Since I did not want to sound naive, I complied and said… “YES, absolutely!  What a great idea!”  Unfortunately, when they asked where they could get the code for my button, I had no answer.  My response… “Mine is not ready yet, but I should have it shortly and will let you both know.”  When the conversation was over, my first point of action was to search for this “button thing” on the internet.  I chuckled as I entered the terms “grab my button” thinking about the amount of strange articles that may pop up!  Well, the laugh was on me.  The first page was filled with link after link about blog buttons and how to create them.  Wow, I thought… Ok, so this is going to be pretty easy!  Wrong again!  Before I go on though, let me give you an idea of what a blog button actually is…

Think of the blog button as a personal brand for your website and you!  It’s your blog, company, or your personal logo!  It gives your blog a polished appearance.  Having a button shows that you are confident in your work.  It is a way of establishing yourself in the blogosphere!

What to do with a blog button???  First, post it on your website where people can see it.  Make sure you point it out!  Ask others to grab it… Why?  Well, having others grab your blog button and post it on their website is a form of fantastic and free advertising!  Share it with others and share their blog buttons on your site!  Cross promotions are a fantastic way to help one another in the cyber world!

Back to the post now… My dilemma… All of the blog buttons that I tried ever so hard to create on my own were not working.  Each website offered a different approach on how to make your own blog button.  All of which worked… kind of… But NONE quite like the most recent one I found!  This is the greatest Blog Button Generator!  I found the website by chance and feel it necessary to share with ALL OF YOU!  So easy, no coding necessary… just plain awesome!  The website… drum roll please… My Cool Realm… The link will take you directly to the “Grab My Button” Code Generator!  All you need before you get your button is a blog address and an address for your picture link!  Now, all you need to do is click on the link and GRAB YOUR BUTTON!!!  While you are at it though… Don’t forget to Grab My Button Too!  Just copy and paste the code below anywhere on your website!  That, would make me very happy!

Starting A Website Or A Blog? Social Networking T.I.P.P.s

SOCIAL NETWORKING T.I.P.P.s From The Imperfectly Perfect Parent

Before you Start A Blog Or Website, Think About The Questions Below…

If you answer yes to all 6 of them, a new venture in the cyber/blogging world may be perfect for you!

  1. Are you comfortable being in the public spotlight?
  2. Do you have thick skin and are you open to being criticized by people you don’t know?
  3. Do you love to write?
  4. Are you organized?
  5. Can you be consistent?
  6. Do you like to socialize?
When working with new bloggers and bloggers to be, the questions above are the first ones I have them answer.  Writing and blogging can be lucrative and a lot of fun. There is a flip side though.  A blogger needs to remind themselves on a daily basis that everything published is subject to scrutiny.  Everything you write is in the public eye. Anything written could lead to awful criticism.  On the other hand, blogging can be very rewarding.
Now, before delving into to working on your business plan or creating your website, you need to establish a few basic things…
  1. Determine the purpose of your website,
  2. Be sure of the message you want to convey, and
  3. Set boundaries for yourself up front…. that is, if you are not planning on being offensive.

More to come… Until then, happy blogging!

Who Are These People???

Rarely do I watch the news.  It is just too depressing.  Logging on to the internet and reading news by choice has always been less emotionally trying on me.  Unfortunately, even that is difficult these days.  I realize I have said this before, but honestly, why do writers and newscasters believe that the front page should consist of terrible things?  They are not necessarily newsworthy!  Unless off course, you are a sociopath or get a kick out of pure and simple misery…

Never mind the newspapers being filled with negative stories…  have you taken a look at most front pages of websites lately?  Take Yahoo for example.  I don’t have anything against yahoo, genuinely.  The site is informative and their search engine is great.  It used to be my home page.  Recently, I converted to Google so that I would not immediately be inundated with things I do not care about or do not want to know about.  When you log into yahoo, the top stories consist of information regarding terrible things happening in our world, or, even worse, celebrity gossip.  The only positive they tend to post is whether someone wore a dress well or not.  Seriously?  Google, fortunately, does not spew out bad reading material the moment you enter.

Today, I somehow ended up on msn now.  The first story that popped into my view was “Tech-savvy citizen rescues 500 dogs from becoming dinner“…  A lovely story about a truck load of dogs, some with collars, some with clothes on, who were on their way to a food processing plant.  Fortunately, the citizen helped stop the awfulness by utilizing a social network.  Ok, so that is not so terrible.  The citizen is clearly a hero, but… what the flip is wrong with the people who stole these poor little beings and who are the even more crazy ones who would consider eating them?  Yes, I know people from different cultures may be inclined to eat animals I would not consider eating but that does not make me ok with it.  Moving on, I got to take my pick of a great list of articles.  The first one, “Family rocks out to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ on drive to school“ and next to that article, “Cruel man pays $2,400 for setting fire to neighbor’s cat “… hmm… This got me thinking.  Are they putting stories in this order to punish me?  A family rocking out in the car to a song is kind of funny.  A great little read to rise and shine with a cup of coffee to.  Unfortunately, I don’t really think I would want to drink a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, read an article about someone setting fire to a cat, and looking at my pretend cat Penelope purring at my feet.  Just another reminder of what may be trending in your world, but not in mine.

Getting Social… Discussion About Social Networking

Since social networking sites have come such a long way, and there are so many more available, I thought it would be a great idea to get more people involved in collaborating on their own time.  Sharing each of our experiences and opinions can only benefit all of us.  That is why I created a page on my website called “Trending Social.  The page is brand new and I need your help to make it a valuable resource for everyone in the blogosphere.

Just click on my page and start sharing.  There is no catch.  You can share your opinions in an open forum and gain some perspective from others facing the same things you are.  The point… to learn about what others use to help their business, and, to share experiences with various platforms.  The result, hopefully, is to help each other avoid wasting time on what does not work, rather spend time on what does.
