Handwritten Notes On Beautiful Stationary…

How I miss the days when I reached into my mailbox and had the pleasure of pulling out a personal letter from a friend. As a child my friends and I would send each other things like stickers, cards, even just a quick note saying hello to one another in the mail.  Picking out the perfect stationary to send to one another was a must.

Back in the day, stationary was an accessory… another way to express yourself, your likes and hobbies.  These days, even birthday invitations and thank you’s are being sent via email.  When I do receive a handwritten card or note in the mail, I get so excited that I rarely make it to the top of my driveway before opening it. Unfortunately, half the time I receive an envelope in the mail with my name and address handwritten on it, the mail is from a company with a brilliant marketing team that knows the world still loves real mail. This marketing scam never fails…

These days, the only time I need stationary is when I need to send notes to my daughter’s teachers.  Instead of writing notes on printer paper, this year, I invested (sounds expensive right?  It’s not…) in Great Thought Bubble Stationary Notecards Which Boast My Last Name!

Going Green… Day 3… Stop The Mail!

Going Green… Day 3… February 8th, 2013

Green Change:  Stop The Excess Mail!

Today’s green plan changed abruptly after I made a pit stop to my mailbox yesterday.  I had not collected my mail in two days and gasped when I opened my mailbox.  There was a lot of mail in there… and I am not talking envelopes, as shown in the picture I took!  My first thought was the little bin I had for recycling paper and how much would need to be thrown in it.  Even more shocking was that as I was sifting through it all, I realized that I needed 1/8th of the mail sent at best.  Aggravated and sad about the amount of waste there was, I decided to contact every company that sent me mail that I did not care about whether catalog, local newspaper, or advertisement and get my name taken off their mailing list.  So far I have had some success.  Even the post office has been helpful in alleviating the amount of mail I get delivered.  I feel success so far but still have a long way to go… Let’s just say that Christmas time may no longer be one of my favorite times of the year if I have to spend ample time calling companies to take me off their mailing lists!  Goodness, I wish they had a do not send button like emails do!
