What do you write about?

When I finally started telling people I had this blog/website, they always asked what I wrote about.  When I  join blog groups or forums, one question that typically pops up on my screen is, what do you write about?  For Trending Mom, what I write about is a loaded question… and a difficult one at that.

The whole premise behind my website is to write about whatever is trending in my world.  It is about following my own trends and the things important to me in life.  There are days I am candid and focus on my children.  Other days, my focus is on technology.  Off course, anything from the humanitarian realm is always on my radar.  When I read books about blogging, the writers tend to stress having a direction.  I realize having a focus is important. My direction, unfortunately, is never going to be just about one topic.  My focus is never on just one topic.  Again, trending mom is about ALL things trending in my world.

“Are you manic?”  HUH?  Someone actually had the audacity to ask me that after they read through a few pages of my blog.  First off, if I was manic, that would be great because it seems I held their concentration enough for them to continue reading.  The reality, though, is nope.  I am not manic.  I am simply normal.  I have my ups and downs.  I have good days and bad.  Some days, my kids frustrate me.  Some days, it is my husband.  Does it really matter though?  Those are the things that make me normal.  Not manic.  So my response to the individual that asked was, “why, yes, I suppose I may be.  A dose of medication may help me too.  Got any good doctors?”  Clearly (or maybe not), I am kidding!  I did respond to the individual with a simple no.

So here is the deal.  If you choose to visit on occasion, don’t expect the same tone in all of my posts.  Please don’t expect me to post only funnies.  Don’t expect me to rate technology every day or to do product reviews.  That actually brings me to another topic….  the reviews…  You will NEVER find a bad review on my site.  Why, you ask…  Well, I don’t EVER review what I don’t like.  That is never going to change… NOT EVER!  I would rather not write about something than give it a negative response…  at least not for someone else.  Not saying I am perfect…  sometimes, I may mention something I do not like a lot… and every so often, I may write about recent frustrations I had with an inanimate object, but…  I will not review ANYTHING on this site if I am not confident in it.  Remember…  you are visiting Trending Mom, all things TRENDING in my world!   Now take a minute and join my website will you?

The Splinter

This past weekend, my daughters and I met some friends at a local playground.  The trip began with a perfect picnic lunch followed by some much-needed play time for the girls.  My friend and I watched from a  bench as the girls ran from swing to slide and back to the swing.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a flurry of movement and realized it was my daughter ,Julia.  She was happily rocking on a horse that should have been too small for her, if she only had a bit more girth.  The horse had a spring under it, which helped with movement making it look like a blast for little ones.  Julia was rocking like a crazy kid though.  Both my friend and I started giggling because it genuinely looked like she was about to be thrown from the horse.  She finally stopped and moved on to a few other things.

Just as I started to relax, I heard a scream coming from Julia.  She ran to us and exclaimed that she had a boo boo.  The boo boo was a splinter.  Smack dab in the middle of her finger, it lay.  It was perfectly visible, right under a thin layer of skin.  If there was one thing I knew, it was that Julia would not let me take the splinter out without a fight, nor would she stop crying until she had a band-aid.  Fortunately, it was time to go and the girls and I walked to the car.

During the walk, Julia continued to cry and complain, yet, would not let me touch that splinter.  Once we got to the car, I knew there was only one thing to do in order to maintain my sanity.  I strapped the little kiddo in her car seat, grabbed her finger, used my other arm as a shield against my daughter’s flailing arm and spit as she screamed in my face…  by the way, I only held her hand and still had not touched the spot where the splinter was.  Finally, once I felt I had things under control from a physical perspective (Julia was still screaming), I pulled the darn splinter out with my finger!  Immediately after, I let go of her hand, and stepped back.  The crying stopped.  I then put some neosporin on her finger, a cute hello kitty band-aid, and wouldn’t you know it…  The little monster started to giggle.  While giggling, she said “Mommy, that was so funny!  I love ya!” ….  enough said.

Getting Social… Discussion About Social Networking

Since social networking sites have come such a long way, and there are so many more available, I thought it would be a great idea to get more people involved in collaborating on their own time.  Sharing each of our experiences and opinions can only benefit all of us.  That is why I created a page on my website called “Trending Social.  The page is brand new and I need your help to make it a valuable resource for everyone in the blogosphere.

Just click on my page and start sharing.  There is no catch.  You can share your opinions in an open forum and gain some perspective from others facing the same things you are.  The point… to learn about what others use to help their business, and, to share experiences with various platforms.  The result, hopefully, is to help each other avoid wasting time on what does not work, rather spend time on what does.

An iPad App That Spins?

Just when you thought that apps could not get more interactive, an even more, highly interactive app, may hit the streets real soon!  The app is called PotteryPrint.  The best way to describe PotteryPrint is creative, educational, 3D, tangible (yes, tangible), fun and rewarding!

Think of this… virtual pottery wheel… fun colors… creating fantastic art… validating your art work… sending it off to a 3D printer… and… drum roll please… sealed and delivered to your doorstep!  That pretty much sums it up.  Now, your child, or you, can create a fantastic and original piece of work, and have it shipped right to you!  All of this done in a seamless manner!  Not to mention, the paint is not going to be all over your walls!  What’s great, is that a child cannot only create something they are proud of, but, before it is shipped in 3D form, they have an opportunity to review it, and make sure it is up to their specs.  Talk about feeling accomplished when it arrives!  I would most definitely have to place the work of art on my mantle!

You can find out more information about this app on its Kickstarter Campaign page.  The campaign only has a few days left!  Click on the link and check it out!  The video alone is enough to make you love it!

I would love your vote! It only takes 2 clicks! One on the link and the other, thumbs up Trending Mom!

Celiac Disease, PETA And A Kardashian… Awareness

Rarely have I written about celebrities.  Regardless of whether I like Kim Kardashian or not, when I initially heard about her “flour encounter” on the Red Carpet, two conflicting emotions ran through me.  First, I wanted to chuckle and then, I felt a little sad for Ms. Kardashian.  The world’s obsession with celebrities amazes me.  I realize they are in the press consistently, therefore, the public actually “feels” like they know them based on what is written and mentioned in the news.  Articles written, unfortunately, remind me of a real life version of the game telephone, which, I never liked in the first place.  As more articles are written about the most recent sighting or gossip, the information somehow gets more detailed as additional content is added.

Yahoo had an article written today with the headline “Khloe Kardashian Quits PETA After Sister Kim’s Flour Bombing.”  The mention of PETA sparked my interest so I read on.  Towards the end of the article, Kim was quoted and said “I think, ‘What if that was some other substance? What if that person had a dangerous weapon?’ It’s scary, and what’s even scarier is this woman acted as if she was a part of the press. She just came out of nowhere! And so we are definitely changing things up a little bit, amping up security, taking some measures.”  The first thing that came to mind when I read ‘What if that was some other substance’, was Celiac disease.  The substance was flour.  A substance that, if not gluten-free, could cause an awful reaction to anyone with Celiac disease!

A few years ago, a close friend of mine informed me her daughter had been diagnosed with Celiac disease.  This was the first I had heard of the condition.  My recollection of what my friend’s daughter went through prior to being diagnosed was horrific!  To watch your child in a hospital bed, deteriorating in front of your own eyes, and having no idea why, is terrifying for any parent.  Fortunately, she was diagnosed with Celiac, but, this meant life for her would change forever.  Her new life would involve following a gluten-free diet to heal her intestines and prevent further damage.  According to an article written in PubMed Health, the healing often occurs in 3-6 months for children, but may take 2-3 years in adults.  That is simply the healing process.  Unfortunately, whenever a person is contaminated (which could happen by breathing gluten), the recovery begins again.  As of right now, Kim Kardashian has not pressed charges against the woman who threw the flour.  It saddens me to think that someone affiliated with an organization like PETA, claiming to be a humanitarian, did not have any regard for other people who may have been in the area her infamous flour bomb went off.

Please don’t forget to vote for me!  You can vote every day, once a day, until April 10th!  I really need your votes and it takes only just a moment!

Organize With Technology Or A Great Agenda?

Technology and I are great friends.  As you are all aware, I love apps!  Between the Cozi app, iCalendar, and more, I never forget to sync them all.  Regardless of my affinity for technology, I cannot seem to let go of my paper agenda.  I have spent years searching for the perfect one and quite honestly, have purchased 4 or 5 each year.  Since becoming a mother, agendas that target mothers and families, are the ones I am most interested in purchasing.  For the longest time, the agenda’s geared towards mom’s did not appeal to me on the exterior, regardless of what the interior had to offer.  Not hiding them in my purse was not an option.  Then came the momAgenda…

momAgenda - get organized with style

This year, I purchased the momAgenda Home Office Edition because I needed a lot of writing space.  I enjoy adding a bit of spice to my agendas!  They become like journals.  Since I already have a slot for each of my girls daily plans available on my agenda, I write a little something about them each day.  This usually consists of a comment they made, or quite simply, something simple about them that made me smile.  In turn, my agenda becomes my diary, and a keepsake for years to come!  It stays with me at all times.  I put sticky notes in them, keep reminders in the pockets and even my bills for the month all in one agenda.  Fortunately, they come in different styles which suit anyone.  Clearly I am sold on the momAgenda!

Jetpacks really do exist?

When I think of a sci-fi movie or older spy movies, jetpacks come to mind.  This weekend, while enjoying some outdoor time with the family, I looked up in the sky, only to see someone, flying through the air, on a strange contraption.  This is not the first time I have witnessed this.  The first time I saw the flying machine, was years ago with my husband.  Being from the area, Danny informed me that the man flying the machine (which resembles a bike with a balloon on it), had been doing so for years.

Interesting as it was, the flying object he was in looked unreliable to me.  Regardless, I wanted to know what it was called and how it was made.  Unfortunately, I did not find any information on the man in the sky’s contraption through any web search engine, but, I did find “The Jetpack”!  The best part about finding the jetpack was that it is not something only seen in the movies.  It is real!  What I found was The Martin Aircraft Companies Website!  They make “The Martin Jetpack,” which, is simply the coolest thing ever!  The exact verbiage in the from their website states; “The Martin Jetpack is the world’s first practical jetpack. It consists of a purpose-built gasoline engine driving twin ducted fans which produce sufficient thrust to lift the aircraft and a pilot in vertical takeoff and landing, enabling sustained flight.”  I want to say that out loud kind of like in A Christmas Story when Ralphie is talking about the famous Red Ryder BB Gun!

Oh yeah, there really is a “Red Ryder BB Gun!”  I even found one in PINK, obviously!  The BB Gun was made by Daisy Outdoor Products and introduced in 1938.

The Martin Jetpack on the other hand, could be the next best thing in commuting as far as I am concerned.  Guaranteed, the accident rate would drop considerably, unless you like bashing into people on purpose!  Commuting would be so much more fun too (as long as the weather cooperated)!  Imagine hovering through the air, waiving to your neighbors as you passed by them, no more kids un-buckling their car seats.  Even waiting in line at your local Starbucks drive (or should I say fly) through would give one the opportunity to engage in conversation!  I bet my kids would have a blast, as long as baby wearing was possible while flying through the air on the Jetpack as well.  Although the Jetpack reminds me of movies like Back To The Future, and Return Of The Jedi, as shown the picture below, it’s exciting that they may be released in our future!  Talk about a technological “must have!”
Don’t forget to vote for me! It takes only a moment!
