Tweet no more

(insert picture here… just imagine it…)

Saturday evening, I curled up on my couch and grabbed my iPad while my husband watched bad TV.  His “bad TV” watching moments are usually when I get the majority of my social media fix in.  It’s like a light at the end of the tunnel for me (ok, so maybe it isn’t that wonderful but still a part of my daily routine).

I checked my emails, moved to Facebook, peeked at my LinkedIn profile and off I was to Twitter.  Once finished with those, I normally find myself engrossed with Pinterest until I’m pinned out.  Trying to log into Twitter, I realized that my account had been compromised.  In fact, according to Twitter, TrendingMom no longer exists.  Neither do my 14,000 or so followers I guess (which is also why there is no picture inserted in this post.  I cannot insert an anatomically correct Twitter pic without access to Twitter).

It’s frustrating to say the least.  I feel violated.  After my divorce (from my job), I made a point to change all of my user names and passwords… except Twitter.  I didn’t want anyone with access to my personal information.  I assumed that Twitter would be the last thing anyone would be interested in.  Clearly, I was wrong.  I’ve been hacked.  Whether it is someone I know, or some random super computer whizzzzzz… they succeeded.  My Twitter Account Is CURRENTLY NULL AND VOID… Fortunately, the wonderful people at Twitter have worked tirelessly, around the clock, trying to find out what happened with my account since Saturday (ok, so maybe they haven’t, but a girl can dream… right?).

Hopefully, my infamous tweets will start circulating again soon.  Twitter, if you are listening, please help… I am floundering without you…

Stuck In The Smubble

HootSuite Pro - Social Media Management System

“What’s A Smubble”, You Ask? The Social Media Bubble Of Course!

“Who isn’t stuck in the Smubble?” Whether you’re a novice internet user or you claim to be a social media guru (yup, I do it too), the Smubble will suck you in, spit you out, suck you in again, spit you out, yet again… and then, somehow, during a vivid dream, you will reach some sort of epiphany, wake up, and immediately sign on… again… only to be spit out… yet again. So now… The real question is, why are we so obsessed with the Smubble? Well, it’s where everything is “happening”. From socializing (obviously), to shopping, to spreading social good and awareness, as well as building your brand. It’s all about the Smubble! Don’t be fooled by this cute little word – SMUBBLEThat cute little word can make or break you, your company, your family and more. It’s like the new epicenter of everyone’s universe and those that don’t hop on the Smubble band wagon will most likely be left in the dust by everyone that does. The next question really, is what to do when you’re stuck in the Smubble… The answer my friends, is blowing in the wind… quite literally. The right answer today could be gone tomorrow because the darn thing moves so fast! The best response I have is this:

  1. Find the Smubble that works for you (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, you get the idea).
  2. If one Smubble spits you out, change your game plan and jump back in.
  3. If the Smubble spits you out again, take a break from it for a little while… kind of like when a friend starts irritating you. Take a break from the friend, hang out with a different one, and if you are ready to deal with the friend again, jump back in knowing full well that the “friend” may irritate you again but you knew that from the start so don’t complain about it.
  4. Don’t compare yourself to other people in your Smubble. Again, like friendships, it really doesn’t matter who has more friends than you. It’s about the quality, not always the quantity. That is, unless you are just doing it for the fame, which in that case, your desperation will show through and you’ll probably end up being a one hit wonder (if you get that far). fortunately, people want to see through the Smubble, not have to deal with smog.
  5. Have fun in the Smubble! Laugh at your mistakes, enjoy your achievements and make some great friends and contacts along the way.

Children And The Internet

Scribe: More Traffic in Less Time
Managing Your Child’s Online Reputation

  • Before allowing your child to use the Internet, it is important that you educate them about the potential dangers associated with using the Internet.
    • Explain to them why they shouldn’t visit certain websites and how they can compromise your child’s safety.
      • Teach them about the dangers of chat rooms and social networking sites.
      • Tell them about online strangers and predators.  Explain that they should not communicate with any strangers on-line just like they are not supposed to in the real world.  Make your child aware that although an online profile might show that the person is the same age as your child, the person may be an adult posing as a child.
      • Explain the importance of keeping personal information private.  Their profile should not show things like the school they go to, the town they live in, their email addresses and more.
      • Stress that your child should never post future plans or their whereabouts.
      • Your home computer should be in a room that is commonly used by your family.
  • Use parental controls available to you.
  • Familiarize yourself with checking the history of internet usage on your computer.
  • Communicate regularly about your child’s online usage.
  • Approve all websites before your children access them.
  • Be sure to check the content and make sure it is safe before letting your child create any profile on it.
  • Be aware of all websites your children access.  If they are social networking sites, parents should have the passwords so they can watch their child’s usage.
  • Your computer should always have some sort of antivirus and Internet security software on it.  Make sure it is always updated.
  • Check that all of your child’s social networking profiles are private.
  • Encourage your child to use your email address for their profile so you can monitor friend requests and messages.
  • Make sure you discuss friend requests with your child to make sure that strangers do not have access to your child’s profile information.
  • Remember, to protect your child online, parents must educate themselves about the risks associated with the Internet.  If parents are not aware of the potential dangers, it will be harder to ensure your child’s safety.

Instagram Everything – Instagram Apps

The Wonderful World Of Instagram, Apps For Instagram And A New Level Of Social Networking And Social Media!

Posting pictures on Instagram could be my latest obsession!  Until yesterday, I didn’t realize I had a number of Instagram followers.  Personally, I have no idea why anyone would have followed me on Instagram since I only had 4 pictures posted… Well, to be honest, I forgot I had an account.

Yesterday, 5pm:  My friend was showing me pictures on her phone and said… “Don’t you just love Instagram?”… Having forgotten about Instagram, and having little knowledge what all the fuss was over, I just nodded.  I admit though, her pictures looked great!

Yesterday, 9pm:  Intention – Writing.  I sat in front of my computer contemplating… to write, or to Instagram…

I started with the search engine… no luck… Oops!  I forgot, it was an app!

On to the app store…

Instagram now has apps for a Mac computer!

Ok, so you still cannot upload images from a Mac to Instagram, but who cares?  The app was created for an iPhone… Not a computer.  The purpose of the app:  Make the pictures you take from your cell phone look fantastic!

Next, my iPhone…

Visiting the app store, I realized that I already had the app.  I even had an account.  A simple upgrade was necessary.  Once complete, the fun began!  Picture after picture, I created one masterpiece after another (lie… the app created one masterpiece after another).  I posted each to Facebook, Twitter and more.  A little overkill?  Yes, absolutely!  The next thing I knew, it was 1:30Am and it was time to call it a night… Bye bye Instagram… Until next time…

The world of apps associated with Instagram is so vast, I thought I would include just a few (honestly), of the apps I found!

Instalook - Find Instagram Photos around you

InstaHelp - The Unofficial Guide for Instagram

PhotoVote - Instagram Challenges

MyPad+ for Facebook, Twitter & Instagram

Calendagram - Wall calendars from your Instagram photos!

Clockstagram

Dashr - Instagram & RSS news reader

Frames for Instagram

Insta – Text!

InstaClip - Instagram Photo Cropper

InstaCollage Pro – Pic Frame & Pic Caption for Instagram FREE

InstaCommentor for Instagram

InstaFramer – Coolest photo frames ever.

InstaFrManager for Instagram

There are even more… I just got tired of cutting and pasting… Enjoy Insta-whatevering away!  Next on my list… Adding it to my website!  xo

Starting A Website Or A Blog? Social Networking T.I.P.P.s

SOCIAL NETWORKING T.I.P.P.s From The Imperfectly Perfect Parent

Before you Start A Blog Or Website, Think About The Questions Below…

If you answer yes to all 6 of them, a new venture in the cyber/blogging world may be perfect for you!

  1. Are you comfortable being in the public spotlight?
  2. Do you have thick skin and are you open to being criticized by people you don’t know?
  3. Do you love to write?
  4. Are you organized?
  5. Can you be consistent?
  6. Do you like to socialize?
When working with new bloggers and bloggers to be, the questions above are the first ones I have them answer.  Writing and blogging can be lucrative and a lot of fun. There is a flip side though.  A blogger needs to remind themselves on a daily basis that everything published is subject to scrutiny.  Everything you write is in the public eye. Anything written could lead to awful criticism.  On the other hand, blogging can be very rewarding.
Now, before delving into to working on your business plan or creating your website, you need to establish a few basic things…
  1. Determine the purpose of your website,
  2. Be sure of the message you want to convey, and
  3. Set boundaries for yourself up front…. that is, if you are not planning on being offensive.

More to come… Until then, happy blogging!

“F” Flashlight

I’m not sure about you, but I cannot remember the last time my power went out and I had my flashlight sitting next to me. I can remember my power going out and my phone being by by side… since I am never without it. Well, now, I don’t have to bump into things looking for my flashlight when the power goes out. I have one built into my phone! Enough said.

Getting Social… Discussion About Social Networking

Since social networking sites have come such a long way, and there are so many more available, I thought it would be a great idea to get more people involved in collaborating on their own time.  Sharing each of our experiences and opinions can only benefit all of us.  That is why I created a page on my website called “Trending Social.  The page is brand new and I need your help to make it a valuable resource for everyone in the blogosphere.

Just click on my page and start sharing.  There is no catch.  You can share your opinions in an open forum and gain some perspective from others facing the same things you are.  The point… to learn about what others use to help their business, and, to share experiences with various platforms.  The result, hopefully, is to help each other avoid wasting time on what does not work, rather spend time on what does.

An iPad App That Spins?

Just when you thought that apps could not get more interactive, an even more, highly interactive app, may hit the streets real soon!  The app is called PotteryPrint.  The best way to describe PotteryPrint is creative, educational, 3D, tangible (yes, tangible), fun and rewarding!

Think of this… virtual pottery wheel… fun colors… creating fantastic art… validating your art work… sending it off to a 3D printer… and… drum roll please… sealed and delivered to your doorstep!  That pretty much sums it up.  Now, your child, or you, can create a fantastic and original piece of work, and have it shipped right to you!  All of this done in a seamless manner!  Not to mention, the paint is not going to be all over your walls!  What’s great, is that a child cannot only create something they are proud of, but, before it is shipped in 3D form, they have an opportunity to review it, and make sure it is up to their specs.  Talk about feeling accomplished when it arrives!  I would most definitely have to place the work of art on my mantle!

You can find out more information about this app on its Kickstarter Campaign page.  The campaign only has a few days left!  Click on the link and check it out!  The video alone is enough to make you love it!

I would love your vote! It only takes 2 clicks! One on the link and the other, thumbs up Trending Mom!
