Pinterest For Therapy?

Beezid

Pinterest is great for so many reasons but I never thought I would resort to using it in a therapeutic way.  Recently, I suffered from a full day of anxiety and irritation, due to an inane set of events which were completely out of my control.  Even my ride home was awful.  My mother always told me never to drive behind someone wearing a hat.  For the 100th time, she was right.  While the man, with hat of course, drove in front of me, I had a strong urge to accelerate and push him off the road… yes, I realize I am sounding like a crazy person but we have all been there.

Finally home, I put my little ones to bed.  Instead of cleaning up like I usually do, I chose to turn the tv off, plant myself on my couch, put my feet up and just breathe… that lasted about a minute.  Bored, thinking of brainless activities to keep myself occupied, it came to me!  Out of the corner of my eye, I could see my iPad.  I jumped up, poured myself a glass of wine and grabbed my infamous iPad.  Starting with a few games, not doing well, and getting frustrated once again, I could only wish for a masseuse to relieve my stress.  I stopped playing games and stared at the screen.  There it was, right in front of me… The Pinterest icon.  The pretty red and white icon in all it’s simplicity was calling my name.

It had been some time since I had used Pinterest.  Although not much has changed, the site never quite bores.  Starting with a few of my friends walls, I found some nice things to pin.  Moving on, I decided to search using the term “white”.  Somehow, my white wall always gives me pleasant feeling.  It has a calming factor.  Quickly, I noticed pins with quotes, a word here and there, even poems.  Most were positive and helped get me to a ”feel good” state of mind.  I noticed the tension in my back slowly dissipated and my mood swinging back to positive.  I was feeling better and it cost me absolutely nothing… amazing what something so simple can do…  I created a Pinterest Wall dedicated to that evening called “Pinteresting Words.”  See my wall below!

SEO And Internet Marketing Strategies – Part 1

468x60b

SEO, also known as Search Engine Optimization, is yet, another tool used as an Internet Marketing Strategy.  Search engine optimization should be incorporated and utilized by web designers to make websites and their designs search friendly.  The goal is to optimize the websites exposure on the Internet.

So, how do you optimize your website and make it Internet search friendly… Well, there are a number of ways. When determining which tools would benefit your website the most, think of the difference between search engines and how they work.  Essentially, search engines have different target audiences.  Through this, you can utilize specific keywords in your posts and through formatting titles, increasing back links, specific menu options, shopping carts and more to increase exposure to various search engines, thus a higher likelihood of getting noticed by the target audience of your choice.

Overall, the success of your website depends on a few things.  First and foremost, content.  Regardless of how great your site looks, without good content, rarely will the website survive.  There are plenty of great looking websites with nothing to offer their readers.  Some popular websites are simply black and white with no frills.   Second to content, gaining readership.  If you do not use SEO tools or enhance your website for proper SEO, you will not have an easy time gaining readership.  Highly ranked sites are generally optimized for search engines.

3 tips to help you with Search Engine Optimization…

  1. Write for your readers, not just for SEO.  Cloaking, or deception (as I like to call it), is not highly looked upon. Cloaking will not get you recurring traffic.
  2. Keywords – Make sure you have rich keywords in place.  The keywords should be in your title as well as content.  Your title should clearly define what the content is about.  The content should be readable as well as include keywords.  A mistake some make is overdoing it with content rich keywords.  You do not have to go overboard.  A well formatted article goes  a lot further than adding the same keyword in every sentence.  The URL should also contain the proper terms/keywords.
  3. Finding your readers… If you really want to utilize the best search engine terms for your website, get back to basics.  Think of yourself as an Internet surfer.  Now, consider the article you are writing.  If you were surfing the Internet, and looking for information related to your article, what terms would you enter in the search field of your browser???  Just like that… you now know what your readers might enter, therefore giving you a better idea of which key words would best be suited for your post.

Stay tuned for part two of SEO And Internet Marketing Strategies… until then, happy optimizing!

Terms For Above Post Broken Down… The Laymans (Trending Mom) Way…

  • Laymans Terms – Technical terms broken down in an easy to understand manner.
  • Keywords In URL - Meaning that the website address for a specific post contains the keyword associated with the post.  For example, if you choose to make the title of your post SEO And Internet Marketing Strategies… the URL/Permalink generated by my theme for that specific post is http://www.trendingmom.com/seo-and-intern… You get the gist.
  • Back Links – This is a link that points to another website from your website or vice versa, from your website to another.  Back links are important for Search Engine Optimization because the number of back links you have, and the quality of the back links (meaning that they point to or from a highly ranked website), may increase your website rankings as well.
  • Cloaking - Utilizing specific keywords in the title (and/or body) of your post), in order to appeal to search engines.  With cloaking, the title (or keywords in the post), are generally not related.  Again… deception… Basically, it is formatting a title like mine, SEO and Internet Marketing Strategies – Part 1, but writing about something completely different while incorporating the words SEO, Internet, Marketing, etc…

Make Money Blogging – A Twist On The Skinny…

LinkShare_468x60v2

Make Money Blogging – Three Not So Simple Words!  Blogging for money seems to be the new trend.  Although blogging can be very lucrative, it also has a dark side… It’s called reality.  Unless you have the ability to somehow engage thousands of readers and make your website one of the top sites on various website ranking engines in days, you will not get rich quick.  Again though, blogging can be very rewarding… you just have to be ready for the reality.

First, you need to love to write.  If you don’t like to write, you are in the wrong business.  Second, if you do not have a plan or idea about your target market or what you want to write about, forget about the money… take a minute and put together your plan.  Third, write, write, write… If you want to utilize affiliates and sell services, make sure that your target market is interested in what you showcase.  Although I could go on forever with tips, and more, I am not going to.  Instead, I would like to keep this short and leave you with this:

  1. Making money from blogging is a possibility.
  2. Don’t expect advertisers to pay you thousands of dollars if you do not have thousands and thousands of readers.
  3. Affiliate sales will make you money but… not a ton unless… you have readers, and, you are smart about how you market and who you are marketing to.  Remember, if you are trying to sell children’s clothes, but your website is about pets, you are most likely not going to have a ton of children’s clothing sales on your site.
  4. Content… make sure what you write is not only readable, but appeals to your readers.
  5. Content… make sure you write more than just one article a week.  Give your readers a reason to come back.
  6. Font… I have to throw this in b/c I made this mistake… I was working on my Mac and added a Google font which looked amazing on my Mac.  Later, I went to show a friend of mine my website on her PC and noticed that the font not only looked like absolute crap, but, even wearing my glasses could not fix the fact that I could barely read it!
  7. Another mistake I made as a beginner blogger… comments… I was so excited to start receiving comments on my blog that I began responding to all of them!  I also allowed all of them as posts regardless of the fact that some sounded odd and didn’t quite relate to what I had written.  Still though, I thought that I should respond and post these.  That was, until I received a comment from a real person stating… “Do you realize that most of the comments you are replying to are spam?”  Did I feel like an idiot?  Yes.  This only confirmed to the rest of the world that I was a novice blogger!
  8. Yet another mistake I made… not engaging with other bloggers.  If you think you are better than the rest, think again.  As a new blogger, you don’t have readers.  Other bloggers do.  There are many reasons for that.  Overall, the blogosphere is not a competition like real life can be.  This is a different world where a lot of bloggers work with one another and promote each other.  Get your nose out of the air and realize that blogging and being a snob do not mix well.  In fact, the last thing you want is to be snubbed by a well-known blogger… although, they probably would never do that. It is one of the reasons they are successful.  Take for example, some of the best blogs out there.  Well, one of the first things you will notice is that a lot of what they write about is to help others.  Another note, many of those websites have content specifically promoting other blogs.  This is a different world.  Get used to it and know that you are not above other bloggers.
  9. Similar to trying to snag your best friend’s boyfriend or husband, DON’T steal content from another blogger.  There is enough content out there, just like there are enough fish in the sea… you get it right?  Surprisingly, this not only happens often, but everyone gets caught at some point.  It is disrespectful and honestly, makes you look like a fool.
  10. Overall, be creative, have fun and write what you love and know.  Understand that it may take time to rake in the dough, but have fun while you are getting there.

There is so much information that I could cover, but as I stated at the beginning of this post, I am keeping this one short.  The best advice I can give any blogger new to the blogosphere is this… Enjoy your new venture, savor the contacts you make, be creative, don’t let one or two negative comments get to you, allow for multiple streams of income in case one goes south, and don’t expect everything to happen immediately.  It may take months… it may take years.

Starting A Website Or A Blog? Social Networking T.I.P.P.s

SOCIAL NETWORKING T.I.P.P.s From The Imperfectly Perfect Parent

Before you Start A Blog Or Website, Think About The Questions Below…

If you answer yes to all 6 of them, a new venture in the cyber/blogging world may be perfect for you!

  1. Are you comfortable being in the public spotlight?
  2. Do you have thick skin and are you open to being criticized by people you don’t know?
  3. Do you love to write?
  4. Are you organized?
  5. Can you be consistent?
  6. Do you like to socialize?
When working with new bloggers and bloggers to be, the questions above are the first ones I have them answer.  Writing and blogging can be lucrative and a lot of fun. There is a flip side though.  A blogger needs to remind themselves on a daily basis that everything published is subject to scrutiny.  Everything you write is in the public eye. Anything written could lead to awful criticism.  On the other hand, blogging can be very rewarding.
Now, before delving into to working on your business plan or creating your website, you need to establish a few basic things…
  1. Determine the purpose of your website,
  2. Be sure of the message you want to convey, and
  3. Set boundaries for yourself up front…. that is, if you are not planning on being offensive.

More to come… Until then, happy blogging!

RSS Feed, RSS Feeder, RSS Feed Reader…

Subscribe in a reader
RSS… Three simple letters, easy enough to remember, yet, still not being utilized by many people.  What is an RSS?  The definition of an RSS is in the letters…  Really Simple Syndication…  Now, in laymans terms, it is a way for you to get all of your favorite content from various websites and publications sent directly to you rather than you having to go to each site to find the most recent articles or posts.

Navigating through the web is a process in itself.  Finding great websites you are interested in is even harder.  On many occasions, I found myself browsing from website to website, hoping to remember which ones I wanted to go back to in the future.  Writing them down doesn’t help much because I generally lose the piece of paper they are written on.  Trying to remember the address is useless for me as well.  The only thing left to do is press on the sites little feed button and voila…  I never have to remember it again.  After clicking on the button, I have the option to receive updates via email or various feed readers I use.  Emails through Yahoo, Gmail, MSN and more offer their very own feed readers registered users.  They are free too!

Utilizing a feed reader for content has many benefits.  Recently, I encountered a few websites with some interesting posts.  I signed up to receive updates through one of my feed readers.  About a week later, I picked up my iPad and began going through my feeds.  There were definitely some headlines I was interested in from the latest websites I added but, the majority of content delivered from them did not peak my interest one bit!  Rather than discontinue receiving updates from the websites completely, having a reader makes it easy to determine what you do and do not want to read, erase the “do not” want to read items, and open the ones that interest you.  Through various readers, you can save articles of interest, email them and more.  Again, these feeds can be read through all sorts of devices from the iPad, to e-readers, emails and even cell phones.  By having a feed reader, you are sure to never be bored, or miss great articles.  You always have the latest news at your fingertips!

Feeds are not only one of the latest technological trends, they are free, interesting, a time buster, and honestly very easy to use.  If you haven’t jumped on the “feed wagon” yet, take a second and start with mine…  Click on the link below and you are well on your way to the latest way to browse the world-wide web… on your time!

Organized Chaos

SIMPLE STATISTICS:

100% Virgo

50% OCD

80% Control Freak

80% Overachiever

And 10% Organized

Although I don’t like where I am going with this post, it has already begun, and it is my turn to spiral downward so I have no choice but to pick myself up again.  Today, it hit me.  Being a full-time mom, full-time wife, having a full-time job, trying to have a life (and clearly knowing how to rhyme), it is a wonder I am able to manage my life as well as my whole family.  So… how do I do it you ask?  Well, my secret happens to be in my pocket-book…

My handbag/pocket-book is built tough!  It doesn’t need a top closure because my hands are constantly in it.  I don’t need excess amounts of pockets in it either.  Fortunately, speeding through life-like I do, I have no time to determine which pocket contains my lip balm or cell phone for that matter.  No people, my bag is easily accessible and filled with all the things a girl needs to live in a world of organized chaos!

Contained in my luxury bag are all the tools anyone needs to stay on top of her game!  I’ve got my iPhone, iPad, school agenda, daily journal, personal agenda, password keeper, 3 ring notebook for all my business needs and more…  Sometimes, I even have my laptop in tow.  Clearly, I have everything any business woman/mom needs at all times!  Unfortunately, the contents in my bag not only create organized chaos in my world, due to the weight of the contents, I also suffer from a bad back.  Fortunately, for my chiropractor, my bad back is probably the reason he is rarely available to see me when I am in need because he is vacationing… again…

The awakening…  It happened today.  While I was searching for a password for a website I desperately needed, all contents contained in my bag were pulled out and covered my whole desk.  After looking through everything I had, I remembered the user name and password I was frantically searching for could not be found in any of the items thrown on my desk.  No… the user name and password were written on yet another organization tool I had… at home…  It was my “home” notebook!  The pit I had in my stomach once I remembered this was terrifying, yet, helped me tremendously.  This was my moment of clarity.  An important decision was made today.  My mission is clear… I need to find a way to organize my life in a simplistic manner.  Sure, it is going to be difficult to let go of all the wonderful things my bag contains… but I know it is time.  I must move forward, and leave the past behind.  My hopes are that I am able to find a tool that will help me organize all aspects of my life in just one place (with back up off course)…
